Historic rush over the dock at Andøya
In March, D/S Hestmanden arrived at OneCo Safe Yard's dock at Andøya in Kristiansand to undergo a 5-year classing, dry-docking and workshop stay.
The tasks performed are standard for the yard and include washing and painting, preparation for class inspections of technical equipment, various steel work and other technical work.
The ship is scheduled to be undocked at the beginning of April, where the veteran will return to the quay at Bredalsholmen.
Bredalsholen Fartøyvern Senter has been OneCo Safe Yards' partner in the project. The parties have had a good collaboration, and also see other opportunities that will be good collaborative projects in the future.
D/S Hestmanden was built in 1911 in Bergen for Vesterålens Dampskipsselskap. In peacetime, the ship has mainly transported people and goods up and down the Norwegian coast. During both world wars, Hestmanden was used for risky convoy shipping, but survived two world wars and gained a reputation as a particularly lucky ship. At the shipyard in Kristiansand, we have now docked several types of ships, including cargo boats, offshore ships, fishing boats, offshore barges, tugboats and now also vintage ships.
"We are grateful for this varied experience and recognise that varied experience is an advantage to take with us into the future and further operations," says Morten Endresen. Manager Marine in OneCo SafeYards.
